A guide to askingAsk in the open

Ask in the open.
Let the answer help others.

When a question belongs in a group or forum, ask it there. More people can help, and others can learn from the answer.

A conversation that stalls

Sara

Hi, I saw you code in the group. Can I DM you so you can fix my problem?

One person is put on the spot to provide the answer.

A question someone can answer

Sara

Hi everyone! Installing this package gives me a dependency conflict. Here are the versions and the full error. What should I check?

Several people can help, and the answer stays useful to others.

Ask for help while respecting people’s time

Asking in a shared space usually gives more people a chance to help and keeps useful knowledge available. Check the community rules and ask permission before moving a conversation to DMs.

Nobody is always available or obliged to answer. If you need ongoing guidance or a guaranteed response time, consider a mentor or professional support.

Never post passwords, personal details, or confidential data. For private matters, use an appropriate support channel or a private conversation both people have agreed to.
